Now, here is the ISSUE 7 titled ‘Freestyle ONKOCHISHIN : carrying knowledge into new fields from the past.’ We create an action by sending our will to a board through wearing boots and bindings and it means that we really rely on the gears and tools. It’s like riding has been evolved with the products and vice versa. Moreover, we can’t talk about the products without riders because not only their feedbacks but also their wills form into the products. So, we decided to visit BURTON headquarter, which Jake Burton established in 1977 in Burlington, Vermont and took amazing pictures of historical products in 42 years. Not only their characteristics, but also we were able to capture the real talk behind the scene stories of each product. Moreover, we interviewed with some persons who concerned and knew about the backstage of freestyle scene established by Craig Kelly, the legend professional snowboarder, who made a revolution to BURTON products. Luckily, we were able to get unrevealed news. However, freestyle snowboarding was actually created by SIMS led by Tom Sims. You probably already know that Craig Kelly used to be in SIMS team. In order to get closer to the truth, we interviewed with a Japanese who succeeded to Tom’s will and finally we were able to see the true origin of freestyle snowboarding. Freestyle snowboarding was born through a rival relation between the East BURTON and the West SIMS along with Craig’s talent and now a modern snowboard culture has been shaped by wishes from those who dreamt of making something incredible in those days.
